"Years Ago" was the 1949 play by Ruth Gordon on which the Spencer Tracy movie The Actress was based.  Debbie was original the first choice to be cast in the picture, and the studio had gone so far as to fit her with costumes, but it was not to be.

"The studio replaced me with an English actress [Jean Simmons].  It didn't seem to bother them that the part called for an American girl, and the actress spoke with an English accent.  She was a bigger name, and that was that.  Instead of sulking in defeat, I decided to hit the road and do the stage version of the same role in summer theaters."
