THE
SCOOP...
This
colorful MGM musical comedy is perhaps best remembered by some for
its famous football ballet, ably performed by Debbie Reynolds, the
human football. But there's a lot more to the picture than that...
In
this film, shot on location in New York City, Donald O'Connor
plays Melvin Hoover, a lovestruck gofer for Look magazine
who comes on like a big shot by promising chorus girl Judy LeRoy
(Debbie) a cover story. Several photography sessions and a zillion
romantic complications later, love is in bloom, but the promise
goes undelivered. So Melvin disappears into a self-imposed life of
park benches and romantic despair until Judy uncorks a scheme that
wins her the cover and her wandering Romeo.
Don't
miss the catchy tunes and terrific dance routines, (including Don
O'Connor tapping on roller skates and Debbie waltzing with Gene
Kelly and Fred Astaire impersonators), as well as catching a
glimpse of an adorable Debbie on the cover of Look magazine -
which happens to be an actual 1953 issue!
