Gurney’s "Love Letters", starring Debbie Reynolds
and John Saxon, will kick off the all new San Fernando
Valley Playhouse Series produced and presented by the
award-winning production team from Civic Light Opera of South
Bay Cities at the historic El Portal Theatre in North
Hollywood for two weeks from February 4-15.
Debbie
Reynolds and John Saxon first met in 1958 when they starred in
This Happy Feeling for Universal Studios. Reynolds
career spans a lifetime of hits including Singin’ in the Rain,
The Unsinkable Molly Brown, How the West Was Won, Tammy and
the Bachelor and many, many others. She currently can be
seen on NBC’s "Will and Grace" as Grace’s
mother.
Saxon starred
opposite Sandra Dee, and Debbie Reynolds and then went
on to make more than 75 films throughout the world. His career
as a martial arts expert and film maker is unique. He starred
in the series
"Dynasty" and continues to work on stage and in film
and television.
"Love
Letters" has been seen around the world, including a
brief stint on Broadway featuring Colleen Dewhurst and Jason
Robards. A cavalcade of celebrities have performed the
piece, including Stockard Channing, Swoosie Kurtz,
Nancy Marchand, Kate Nelligan, Paul Newman,
Christopher Reeve, Robert Wagner, Lynn
Redgrave, Joanne Woodward and many others.
"Love
Letters" centers around the intersecting lives of Andrew
Makepeace Ladd III and Melissa Gardner. Through a series of
written correspondence, both hysterical and moving, we come to
know both of them intimately – from their strict WASP
upbringing, through later life political aspirations, love
affairs, military service and artistic ambitions.
Presented for
the new San Fernando Playhouse Series at the El Portal
Theatre, at Lankershim Blvd. and Weddington St., "Love
Letters" runs February 4-15. Tickets range from $35 to
